The fourth annual Student Mentoring Program at the Harbor Hotel Wednesday attracted 46 students and 20 mentoring businesses.

The program, staged by the Business and Education Committee of the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce, provides students from three area schools -- Watkins Glen, Odessa-Montour and Bradford -- with insights into the business world and networking contacts.

The focus this year included the need for talent to remain local, to stay in the Finger Lakes.

Keynote speaker was Jared Campbell, an educational musician who performed a unique conversation-based presentation through music. In addition, Sean Lukasik of CreAgent Marketing and Pipeline 4 Progress talked to the students about shaping their future for success.

Those two men also joined a panel that answered written questions from students. Panelists included Chuck Franzese of Hunt Engineers, Danielle Hautaniemi of Cooperative Extension, Jeffrey Dill of the J.R. Dill Winery, and Rebekah LaMoreaux, president of the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce.

Sponsoring organizations included REDEC/RRC, CSS Workforce NY, and the Chemung Canal Trust Company.

The students came from the three high schools within Schuyler County. Each was mentored during the five-hour program by representatives of businesses that included:

The American Red Cross - Sullivan Trail Chapter; the Career Development Council; the Chemung Canal Trust Company (Montour Falls and Watkins Glen); Community Bank; CSS Workforce New York; Finger Lakes Accounting; Five Star Bank of Bath and Dundee; GST BOCES; HSBC Bank USA; the J.R. Dill Winery; Lakewood Vineyards Inc.; REDEC/RRC; the Schuyler County Volunteer Ambulance Association; Schuyler Hospital; Sunset View Creamery; Visions Federal Credit Union; Watkins Glen International; and the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Watkins Glen High School had 16 student participants, while Odessa-Montour had 13 and Bradford 17.
